Preview:
In July 2008, paleontologists Nadia Frobisch, Jorg Frobisch, and Lars Schmitz unearthed the nearly complete fossilized remains of a 35 foot, 240 million year old Ichthyosaur in Nevada’s Augusta mountains. The teeth of this Ichthyosaur were diamond shaped, with sharp cutting edges and unlike any other ever found. Scientists instantly knew this creature would have been the top predator of the oceans in its time. Now, the investigation begins into this unique creature as scientists attempt to understand where it fits in the evolutionary history of the first sea reptiles. In Chicago, the painstaking task begins of removing the bones of this sharp-tooth Ichthyosaur from the solid rock tomb which encases it. Meanwhile, in Nevada, a team of paleontologists search the terrain for more fossils, hoping to uncover more clues that may help explain the evolution of this prehistoric predator. Ultimately, in the lab and in the field scientists are looking to explain how a species which originally came from land transformed over millions of years into a purely aquatic creature.
