Ric gets the thumbs up for a new cancer drug and he's thrilled to have bought himself more time to see his grandson. But when he is pulled into the heartbreaking case of a young mum Ruby, who has rejected the drug, Ric is furious at the injustice and impulsively decides to give Ruby his prescription. But when Ruby's condition worsens, Ric realises his heroic gesture will be for nothing. Ric accepts that he can't help everyone and maybe it's time he helped himself.
